About the accommodation
Are you looking for a place that is suitable for a full-fledged holiday or a relaxing weekend, but also for a business trip? If so, we would be delighted to welcome you soon to the Domaine de Charlemaine estate in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
Our farm is located in the west of France, about twelve kilometres from the centre of Angoulême, in a quiet, solitary location, surrounded by thirty hectares of woodland and meadows where we produce our own organic hay and cut wood for our own needs. The farm is primarily operated as a near-natural stable for horses. We also offer guest rooms for up to four people on our property. The guest rooms are located in a renovated 18th-century stone-built house, renovated using only natural materials. These include, for example, hemp, straw, lime, sand, wood and lime paints, all of which contribute to preserving the character of the historic building.
Apart from the guest rooms, there is a common living and dining room with fireplace, TV and books. You are welcome to use the small kitchen, which is equipped with a refrigerator with freezer, a small oven, a microwave and a stove, to prepare your meals or to warm up a little. Organic teas are also available for self-service. Breakfast is served in the dining room or outside. We work as far as possible with regional quality products from organic farming. Our rooms have been renovated with natural materials such as hemp, lime, wood and stone and decorated with many original upcycling ideas. We offer you style and comfort on a historic estate surrounded by fields and woods. Although you can enjoy a great deal of peace and quiet here, you are only 12 kilometres away in the departmental capital of Angoulême, where all possibilities are open to you.
Surroundings and activites
The easiest way to enjoy your leisure time with us is to relax on our farm or take a walk around the estate, which has been cultivated in accordance with the principles of organic farming for several years. Discover the horses' natural way of life, observe flora and fauna or walk along the country lanes to the river Charente, which gave our department its name and flows just a few kilometres away in a loop past our farm. The historic town of Angoulême is only twelve kilometres away, 30 minutes drive to Cognac and within an hour you are in the Bordeaux region. In summer, the Charente offers a full cultural and festival programme with many free events and you can also take a bike ride to the Château de Balzac or along the river.
Location and getting around
Thanks to its proximity to Angoulême, our estate has a very good connection to the national road N10, which is only nine kilometres away. Coming from Angoulême, about four kilometres before Marsac, turn right towards Les Modillions/Aéromodelisme and then take the first left towards Chantemerle. At the first street, turn right at the sign for Ecurie du Domaine de Chantemerle.
Angoulême is also the nearest train station, which is also served by the TGV. From there, there are regular buses that take you to the bus stop Marsac, Eglise, which is about three kilometres away from our farm.
