About the accommodation

Our holiday home is surrounded by old trees in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park and on the edge of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park in the community of Buhlenberg, which has about 530 inhabitants. Well-developed hiking trails through fields, woods and fields in the best air invite you to take relaxing walks in the high forest in every season of the year. Our charming low mountain landscape between the Mosel/Bernkastel and Nahe/Idar-Oberstein as well as the castle and slate road in the Hunsrück region offer you varied excursions with a variety of sights. We have converted the former residential part of the 100-year-old farmhouse into holiday apartments in a building biological and allergy-friendly way. In the former barn is our own apartment. Our house is a nonsmoking house for seniors, which has a library, game collections, tandem rental and a farm garden with biological management.

Accommodation

We cultivate the property, the classic farm garden with herbal spiral and the water lily pond in a natural way. Almost every year we open our garden to visitors at the "Open Day". We are happy to share our experience in horticulture and garden design with our guests and visitors. Our modern, ecological holiday home has three cosy apartments and a small apartment. These are each equipped with shower/WC, natural wood furniture, SAT-TV, internet connection, stereo and a generous kitchen equipment. We provide our guests with bed linen, towels and table linen. Children's cot, high chair and changing mattress are available for our small guests. Bicycles, surfboards, etc. brought along can be kept in a lockable room. We will be happy to lend you garden furniture, barbecue and bicycles. Our house is suitable for groups of up to 12 persons.

Surroundings and activites

We have worked out a guest folder for you, which introduces you to the Hunsrück, our "homeland", with varied excursions, day trips and various destinations. Rangers of the still young Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park will gladly take you on their excursions through untouched nature. Admire the unique gemstone mines in the Steinkaulenbergwerk, the Gemstone Museum or the rock church in Idar-Oberstein. Climb the King's Staircase of the "Hunnenring" near Otzenhausen, one of the largest Celtic fortifications in Europe or enjoy a ride with the bicycle trolley through the romantic Glantal. Trier, Germany's oldest city, is just as easy to reach as Disibodenberg castle ruins near Bad Sobernheim, where Hildegard von Bingen lived and worked.

Location and getting around

The Black Forest High Forest in Rhineland-Palatinate is the largest contiguous forest area in West Germany. Southeast of Buhlenberg, situated at the edge of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, about 480 m above sea level, lies Buhlenberg. With the car: The A 62 motorway is about nine kilometres away, the journey from Birkenfeld to our house takes about ten minutes. Trier is about 60 kilometres away, Kaiserslautern about 65 kilometres and Idar-Oberstein about 17 kilometres away. With the train: The nearest train station is in Neubrücke/Nahe, nine kilometres from Buhlenberg. From there you can take the bus to Birkenfeld, from where we will be happy to pick you up.
